This journal page is about collecting. I love to collect cool found objects. Some of my favorite things are vintage charms, old photos, holiday and travel postcards, luggage labels, foreign fabric, ribbons, bottle caps, milk caps, old advertising, & vintage German ornaments. I like shiny and colorful things. Maybe I am a raccoon! To think it all started with something big. I used to collect quilts, and now most of my treasures are small!

The photos above are my twins. Bella is wearing a Pioneer costume for Statehood Day that I wore when I was in third grade!

Here is my stepson Chris and the cute girl is my mom as a child. Her mother was quite a seamstress.

Once again the twins and me as a child. Love that plaid dress.

The first photo is from my dad's childhood. Here is my oldest daughter then and now. Below is my other stepson Paul at Disney World. I think he looks like a model here.

I LOVE to make paper bag books with a theme and then create ATC cards to fill them. Here is one I just finished-I had been working on it off and on for over a year; when I was in the mood. It may be one of my favorites! Hope you like it.

Finally, I have finished the pillows and even made a July 4th charm necklace.

Here are the beginnings of two Fourth of July pillows.

I have been working away on a Fourth of July Banner. It was really fun to make. I embellished it with random things I had on hand- tiny pom pom trim, crocheted flowers, red stripe fabric, sequins, glitter paint, and ribbon. Next, I am going to work on a pillow. For being one of my favorite holidays, I can't believe I haven't done this sooner!

I am a little behind lately. School is almost out, baseball season is about over, and now maybe I will have a little more time to create. Anyway, here are my latest journal pages. The top page has a photo of my mom sitting on an airplane when she was young. I always wondered whose plane it was. Sadly, I will never know. Ask the questions while your loved ones are still with you!

With spring sprouting all around us, this seemed like an appropriate theme for my latest journal page. Especially since we had such a hard winter. The worst blizzard ever in this area. This is all easily forgotten when I look at my crabapple trees, irises, redbuds, pear trees, and finally; my lilacs about to burst forth in bloom! I love spring!

I am so thankful for God's help. You know how you want to do things, but you just don't seem to have the discipline. Well, I have been praying for some assistance and with God's little pushes I am staying up with three different quests that I began January 1st. One of them is reading the Bible on a daily basis in a quest to read through it in one year. The second is completing challenges for the Art Journal Caravan Project. The third quest will be discussed at a latter date. It is one I begin tomorrow!

Here is a cute little vintage New Year's card. This is part of my Keep the Spirit of Christmas Alive endeavor. At church today that was the sermon and I think it is a great idea. During the holidays everyone is happy and wishes others well. Wouldn't it be nice if those feelings could continue throughout the year. Here is just a little bit of happiness. Look for my little gifts of love throughout the year.

Here is my final journal page for the AJC 2010 journey. I reflected back on some of the fun times with my family from the last year and combined them to create this page. It's nice to look back, but the future beckens.

I hope that you and your families had a wonderful day. We enjoyed a quiet day with the kids. We managed to sleep in a little. Having older children has it's advantages! After a yummy breakfast made by my honey, we opened gifts and the kids proceeded to enjoy their new things. Later we feasted on ham and trimmings joined by our oldest daughter and her boyfriend. All in all, a beautiful day for the Lord's birthday.

First, Merry Christmas to everyone! As I wonder at the true reason for the season-the birth of our Lord & Savior Jesus I remembered these tiny nativities that my sister and I had as children. It always had a special place in our rooms. They were some of my favorite things about the season. I loved the bright colors, the angel on top and of course, the glitter. May your Christmas holiday be full of the simple joys of family, friends, love, faith, and laughter.

Well, it appears that the day has finally come. Today we had our last visit to Santa. The twins are eleven and just teetering on the edge of believing. It was kind of bittersweet to have such a long standing tradition end. We have always headed over to Utica Square to visit Santa. Even when we lived out of state we would always come home for Christmas and a visit to Utica Square was always something we did. So today the tradition ends with a cold wait and cocoa and coffee from Starbucks.

I would have never thought school would have been out for wind chill, but here we are for day two of below zero wind chills. At least it is giving me reason to write in my blog! Not one for resolutions, I am actually thinking about making one and sticking to it. I love the idea of my blog, but get so caught up in the daily routines that I often forget to write in it. In fact, the last time I wrote here was in the summer! There are so many things I would love to share looking back, but where to start. So here it is-My resolution for 2010 is to write in this blog at least once a week if not more. Wish me luck!

Is seems unbelievable how much stuff can pile up during a school year! I am always thinking that I'll do this or that when it's summer and I have more time. Well, this week the time came due! It feels good, though, to be able to check stuff off the list. Closet - check, sort books - check, organize teacher stuff - check, and on and on it goes. I did take a moment out yesterday to smell the roses - literally. I have this lilac colored rose that has a lemony floral scent that is wonderful. Here is a photo of it. I wish I could capture the fragrance to share with you!

Here is my latest collage sheet. It's called Latin Love. I have collected a whole group of wonderful Latin ephemera items. So more goodies to come. I have always loved different cultures and now I have an actual connection to Hispanic culture through my sweet husband. Now I just need to keep practicing my Spanish!

Everyone loves I Spy books. It's like a treasure hunt in a book. It could possibly be the kid equivelent to my favorite - the flea market! My second grade students are making their own I Spy Book with their favorite things and then creating rhymes to go with them. They are having a ball learning. Here is my I Spy photo for the book. I love old junk!

I made this collage a few years ago after thinking about the color contrast in the kids clothes, birds, and the snow.

This photo was taken just a few weeks ago when we had another ice storm. This weekend it seems so far away though as it is in the 70's!

Using one of my Paris collage sheets, images from one of my Easter collage sheets, crepe paper, paperboard box, paint, and assorted found objects I made this 3D box complete with a suprise inside!

Valentine's Collages

Needed newspaper, edging scissors, glue, paint, copies of a favorite vintage photo, prepared canvas, vintage buttons & letters cut from a magazine to spell what you want to say. (For my vintage images, I used one from my fairies collage sheet and one from a Halloween collage sheet. I also used a old postcard image for the house.)

First Paint the canvas, mixing colors to get the shade you want. Cut out your shapes from newspaper & apply, add the vintage images and words, glue buttons on sides and you have a personalized valentine for someone special!

Here are two of my favorite Halloween collage sheets. I find that even though I have tons of images, sometimes I find myself returning to my old favorites.

Here is a photo of my kids on Halloween a couple of years ago. It is such a cute age when you as the parent still can influence the costume of choice. Don't they look cute as Dorothy and Spiderman?!

Kaleidoscope is a wonderful combination of eye candy and inspiration. Artist Trading Card Workshop and Artist Trading Cards are two favorites I turn to for inspiration.
